What is a neck lift?
Over time, the face loses its youthful contours. Facial contours can be lost due to a wide variety of reasons, including aging, heredity, gravity, or even stress. When the neck area doesn’t match the upper facial features, a neck lift may be a good choice. A neck lift, or lower rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the jawline and neck. A neck lift addresses sagging jowls, loose neck skin, and fat under the chin.

What can I expect during my surgery?
Dr. Carvajal will administer either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Depending of the degree of change you want, your choices include a traditional or limited incision neck lift. A traditional neck lift often begins in the hair line and continues down and around the ear and ends behind the ear in the hair line. A limited incision neck lift may involve incisions only around the ear. After your surgery, incision lines are closed. Sutures used may dissolve on their own or they may need to be removed in a few days. Once healed, incision lines are usually well concealed in the hairline and/or in the contours of the ear.
What should I do after my surgery?
Following surgery, Dr. Carvajal may put a bandage around your neck to minimize swelling and bruising. A drain may also be present to prevent blood or fluid from collecting under the skin. Dr. Carvajal will give you instructions on how to care for your surgical site, what medicines to take or apply, and when to follow up. It will be important to keep your head elevated about your heart to minimize swelling.
